Hemant Shah
Hemant leads the tax and accounting functions at YXS Capital, where he ensures the firm’s financial reporting, tax structuring, and compliance frameworks are built for institutional scale. With over 20 years of experience in fund accounting and auditing, Hemant specializes in navigating the complex fiscal and regulatory requirements of the alternative asset management industry. As a Managing Director at Starrlight Advisory, he is recognized for building the robust financial infrastructures that serve as the operational backbone for global investment firms. Hemant’s career is defined by his ability to scale financial operations for mission-critical funds. He previously served as Senior Vice President of Fund Accounting and Administration at WaterEquity, an impact asset manager where he oversaw the reporting and accounting for more than $350M in committed capital. This included the successful $150M final close of Global Access Fund IV, a milestone that expanded safe water access to millions. Hemant’s technical depth is rooted in 15 years of public accounting at Big Four and top-tier firms. At RSM US LLP, he was instrumental in building the financial services practice in the Metro D.C. market, successfully growing the audit practice by more than 50% and expanding the local team fivefold to meet institutional demand. A credentialed CPA licensed in New York and Virginia, Hemant also holds a non-licensed CFE designation. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Accounting from The University of Kansas. Beyond his technical oversight, Hemant is a dedicated leader in the profession, chairing the Pathways & Belonging (DEI) Council at the VSCPA and serving on the AICPA’s LGBTQ+ Committee. At YXS Capital, Hemant’s focus on rigorous tax compliance and precision-driven accounting ensures the firm’s back-office operations remain a primary strength as the platform grows.
